Abstract | ||
Turnips (Brassica rapavar. rapa L.), one of the cruciferous vegetables, include substances with antioxidant and anti-cancer qualities that lower the risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer. Aim: the current study aimed to investigate the anticancer and antioxidant activities of Turnip (Brassica rapa) leaves extract against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells in Swiss albino female mice. The toxicity and dose response of Turnip leaves extract were determined. The following groups were created from the experimental animals: control, EAC cells group, preventive and therapeutic groups. Numerous biochemical markers [Malondialdehyde (MDA), Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Glutathione peroxidase (GPX),Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF- α), Cytochrome C, Caspase-3, and Apoptosis regulator BAX] were be estimated studied groups. Turnip leaves extract had safe dose and tumor growth inhibition, decline the growth of EAC in preventive group. Additionally, the turnip leaves extract had a potential and powerful antioxidant by reduction the oxidative stress through modulating lipid peroxidation and enhancing endogenous antioxidant status. Turnip leaves extract promotes cell cycle and apoptosis, as their compounds have binding attraction force towards the bcl-2-like protein 4 (pro-apoptotic) in molecular docking. In EAC cells, turnip leaf extract demonstrated potent anticancer, antioxidant, and apoptotic properties. | ||
