Abstract | ||
Background: Striae distensae (SD) are common dermal lesions with significant cosmetic and psychological impact. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) have emerged as effective therapy. The present study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of PRP, alone and in combination with microneedling, in the treatment of striae distensae. Methods: This randomized clinical study included 30 female patients with SD randomly assigned into two groups: Group I received PRP plus microneedling; Group II received intradermal PRP. Each patient underwent five sessions at two-week intervals. Clinical improvement was assessed using changes in striae width, length, and severity (INA score), with photographic documentation and independent dermatologist evaluation. Results: Both PRP alone or combination wih microneedling treatments resulted in significant reductions in striae width, length, and INA severity scores (p<0.001 for all). The mean INA score decreased from 6.4 ± 1.2 to 4.9± 1.5 in the PRP plus microneedling group, and from 6.2 ± 1.01 to 5.27± 1.39 in the PRP group. PRP plus microneedling group showed higher rates of excellent clinical response (26.7%%) compared to PRP group (13.3%). No major complications occurred; side effects were mild and transient in both groups. Conclusion: PRP, either alone or with microneedling, is a safe, simple, and effective option for SD. Combining microneedling with platelet concentrates further enhances clinical improvement and patient satisfaction. | ||
