Abstract | ||
Background: Skeletal immature patients frequently have coronal plane abnormalities around the knee, such as genu valgum and genu varum, which can lead to pain, joint instability, and abnormal gait. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the radiological and clinical results of transphyseal screw-assisted temporary hemiepiphysiodesis in young patients with coronal plane knee abnormalities. and Methods: Twenty patients participated in this clinical research, which was carried out at Benha University Hospital. Patients were followed up with until abnormalities were corrected and the transphyseal screws were removed, which might take up to a year starting in March 2024. Results: With 80% bilateral abnormalities, genu valgum was more common (80%) than genu varum (20%). MPTA (82.5° → 88.5°, p=0.001), LDFA (78.6° → 87.8°, p=0.001), MAD zone (1.6 → 0.2, p=0.001), and Bostman score (bad 10% → 0%; good 0% → 80%, p=0.001) all showed significant improvements in angular measurements. The average duration of the operation was 21.35 ± 4.28 minutes, and the mean corrective time was 8.3 ± 2.85 months. 15% experienced complications (all undercorrection). Conclusion: When it comes to fixing coronal knee abnormalities in skeletally immature patients, temporary hemiepiphysiodesis with transphyseal screws is a minimally invasive, safe, and successful procedure that yields dependable repair with few complications. | ||
