Abstract | ||
Summary : Egypt is a nation with a deep and rich cultural and heritage history, making the protection of its heritage critically important. While Egyptian villages are replete with historical buildings that possess inherent value and necessitate the preservation of their architectural and urban identity, the priority of conservation and maintenance projects often remains focused on major cities, such as Cairo and Alexandria. This disproportionate focus inadvertently leads to the erosion of the urban identity of heritage villages. Despite the implementation of some limited conservation projects in select Egyptian heritage villages, there is a clear need for the establishment of precise criteria and a comprehensive methodology for evaluating preservation projects. Accordingly, this study presents a proposed methodology for evaluating heritage village conservation projects. This methodology was derived from an analysis of the stages of heritage preservation and the conservation of heritage villages within the Egyptian context, along with the Terms of Reference for monitoring and documenting heritage villages in Egypt. The proposed methodology was tested on a conservation project for a specific Egyptian heritage village: Shali Village in Siwa Oasis, Matrouh Governorate. The testing encompassed various stages of the conservation process:{ Defining the study area - Analyzing the current situation - Identifying funding sources - Evaluating the Shali conservation project through three steps:(A questionnaire directed at the heritage village residents- A questionnaire directed at specialists regarding the proposed methodology and the Shali conservation project- valuating the conservation experience using the proposed methodology presented in the study) }. | ||
