Abstract | ||
King Abdulaziz Al Saud’s visit to Alexandria in January 1946 was a landmark diplomatic event that exemplified the use of diplomatic heritage to promote inter-Arab tourism between Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Accompanied by several of his sons—some future kings—the visit carried strong symbolic and historical significance. Alexandria witnessed grand celebrations, with decorated streets, triumphal arches, and organized visits to major landmarks, reflecting both official and popular enthusiasm. This study adopts a historical-analytical approach to provide a documented account of the three-day visit, which has not been previously examined in detail. Drawing on manuscripts, contemporary newspapers, and archival photographs, it explores the ceremonial and social dimensions of the reception and the extensive preparations involved. Beyond documentation, the research proposes practical ways to revive this historical event through the development of themed tourist routes narrating the story of the visit, supported by augmented reality technologies and photographic exhibitions. Such initiatives aim to enhance awareness of the deep historical ties between Saudi Arabia and Egypt and to preserve this shared heritage for future generations. The study highlights the importance of specialized tour guiding as a bridge between past and present, fostering cultural understanding and sustainable development. It concludes that revitalizing diplomatic heritage, as represented by King Abdulaziz’s 1946 visit, can effectively promote cultural and diplomatic tourism, create new economic opportunities, and strengthen the long-standing civilizational bonds between the Saudi and Egyptian peoples. | ||
