| Abstract | ||
| This interdisciplinary comparative study examines the influence of digital technology and social networks on identity construction as depicted in two contemporary novels: Redes «networks» by Eloy Moreno and Distancia de rescate «Rescue distance» by Samanta Schweblin. Drawing on literary theory, semiotics, cultural studies, and digital communication research, the analysis explores how digital language elements (such as text messages, emojis, and hashtags), narrative fragmentation, and performative strategies shape the characters’ identities. The study applies theoretical frameworks—including self-discrepancy theory, new media aesthetics and hyperreality—to discuss the tensions between the authentic self and its idealized, digitally mediated projection. Ultimately, the research not only highlights innovative narrative techniques that mirror the fragmented, hyperconnected experience of the digital age but also offers critical insights into the transformation of personal and cultural identities in a globalized digital society.
