Abstract | ||
This interdisciplinary study focuses on examine the relationship between humans and animals in light of ecological literature in selected short stories by the Chinese writer WenYaJun and the Egyptian writer Mohamed El-Makhzangy. Therefore, the researcher used both the descriptive and comparative approaches, in accordance with the American school. Both writers demonstrated the vital role animals play in human life. They criticized the idea of anthropocentrism, which asserts that human interests and the fulfillment of their selfish desires are important than the preservation of other living organisms. Animals, too, are living beings have the right to life. They emphasized to the reader that human greed and selfishness will have dire consequences in the future, and therefore it is necessary to coexist with nature in amicable and harmonious manner. Herein lies the role of literature in shaping the reader's awareness and calling for the adoption of an ethical vision for environmental conservation. | ||
