Abstract | ||
Technological advancements in communication and information sciences, coupled with the urgent need for cultural-economic exchange, have positioned audiovisual translation as a fundamental pillar for delivering multimodal discourse to maximized audiences. This evolution has shifted scholarly focus from analyzing literary texts with unitary semiotic systems to investigating texts incorporating multiple semiotic systems. Through case studies extracted from the Arabic series Paranormal (ما وراء الطبيعة) on Netflix, this paper analyzes the interaction between linguistic and non-linguistic elements in audiovisual translation. It demonstrates the imperative of integrating visual semiotics—requiring the decoding of imagery, extraction of embedded meanings, and their incorporation into translated subtitles. By applying the theoretical framework of multimodal discourse theorists Kress and van Leeuwen, we develop practical models to enhance translation quality. The outcomes aim to advance multimodal machine translation systems that integrate cultural dimensions into automated translation processes. | ||
