Abstract This study aims to analyze the frameworks of Egyptian newspapers' treatment of the issue of climate change and to examine their role in developing environmental enlightenment among a sample of the Egyptian public. The researchers adopted a descriptive analytical approach, analyzing journalistic content published on Al-Ahram Gate, Al-Wafd Gate, and Youm7 between March 1 and August 31, 2024. A field survey was also conducted with readers of these newspapers to assess the potential influence of such media content. The content analysis revealed varying degrees of attention to climate change issues, with a focus on natural disasters, pollution, and global warming. The dominant framework of treatment was the episodic frame, particularly using frames of responsibility, action, and achievement. The coverage relied heavily on conventional news formats and office-based sources, with minimal use of interactive media such as videos and infographics. Field results showed no statistically significant correlation between the newspapers’ frameworks of treatment and the development of environmental enlightenment among the audience. This suggests that the media performance of the selected newspapers did not substantially influence the public’s environmental knowledge, attitudes, or behavior. The study recommends improving environmental media practices by diversifying treatment frameworks, incorporating more interactive formats, and directly linking media coverage to environmental enlightenment outcomes.
