| Abstract | ||
| : Background: lymphedema related to breast cancer most frequently reported complaints of Breast cancer related lymphedema patients Microsurgical lymphatic surgeries are largely classified into “lymphatic bypass” and “lymphatic transfer”. “Lymphatic bypass” includes lymphatico-lymphatic bypass (LLB) and lymphovenous bypass (LVB) Multiple factors affecting the long-term patency of the LVA. the number of the anastomosis is one of these factors in the literature there is significant variation from the technical point of view regarding the ideal number needed to be done, this topic still a subject of debates some author advocates it and other not (8) Objective: This study aiming to detect the impact of the number of the LVA on the outcome of (BCRL)breast cancer related lymphedema surgery Patients and Method: This was a prospective Case series study conducted on 20 patients presented to plastic surgery department of kasr Al-ainy hospital, suffering of Post-mastectomy upper limb lymphedema, in the period from October 2020 to January 2023. . This study was approved by the Research Ethical Committee of faculty of Medicine, Cairo University code: MD-87-2021. The patients were classified into two groups Group A included 10 patients and we did one anastomosis group B included 10 patients and we did 2 anastomosis all patients were preoperatively prepared and investigated by indocyanine green and duplex then lymphaticovenular anastomosis was done and the number of anastomosis were documented They were assessed by the down staging in ISL ,quality of life and number of cellulitis attacks ,whether it is correlated to the number of anastomosis or not Results: In the current study, we found that the improvement in international society of lymphology (ISL) staging, and quality of life was not related to the number of LVAs done in each patient as well as there was no correlation between the number of Lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) Conclusion: Lymphaticovenular anastomosis is good option for treatment of breast cancer related lymphedema it downstage the international society of lymphedema and decreasing the number of the cellulitis attack but this was not related to the number of anastomoses that was done. | ||
