| Abstract | ||
| The translation strategies of foreignization and domestication can be seen as extensions of literal translation and free translation, but they are not entirely identical. While literal translation and free translation focus on how to handle form and meaning at the linguistic level, foreignization and domestication transcend the limitations of linguistic factors and expand their scope to encompass language and culture. According to American translation scholar Lawrence Venuti, domestication involves "bringing the original author into the target language culture", while foreignization involves "accepting the linguistic and cultural differences of a foreign text and bringing the reader into a foreign context." Thus, literal translation and free translation primarily focus on linguistic value orientations, while foreignization and domestication are rooted in a broader cultural context. Translation is not only a cross-linguistic communicative act, but also a cross-cultural communication process and exchange activity. Translation and culture have a close interactive relationship. In summary, language reflects culture; it is not only a vehicle for cultural exchange, but also a tool for intercultural communication. If we only focus on the language without understanding the culture on which it depends, it will be difficult for us to accurately understand and appropriately reproduce the meaning of the original language. Therefore, we should not only pay attention to the language structure, but also pay attention to the connection between the language and the culture it represents. | ||
