| Abstract | ||
| The stucco decorations on the external facades of El-Sakakini Palace, in Cairo, have been exposed to various damage factors due to their presence in the open environment, which affects their physicochemical and mechanical properties. This paper aims to study the Analyses and investigations of the stucco decorations, the most important of which are: (XRD), (SEM-EDX), Stereo microscopy , FT-IR, and Some physiomechanical properties, were measured on archaeological samples. Some of the most important results of the study were that the stucco decorations composed mainly of: calcium sulphate hydrate (CaSO4.2H2O), calcium sulphate (CaSO4), silica (SiO2) and calcium carbonate (CaCO3). In addition, sodium chloride (NaCl), iron oxide phases, and the state of disintegration and weakness of the mineral components of the samples, with the presence of voids between the metal grains, were detected. The microbiological study was applied to the swabs to help in define the appropriate method to inhibit. The result of this study presents five isolated fungal species grew on the stucco decorations namely: Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus versicolo, Penicillium chrysogenum, Cladosporium herbarum . The data revealed that the stucco decorations on the external facades of El-Sakakini Palace need restoration to preserve them. The findings of this study will help us in preparing stucco decorations completion material of the same archaeological components. | ||
