| Abstract | ||
| Background: In hepatic portal hypertension, the recurrence of oesophageal varices (OV) after band ligation eradication is a challenging issue. This study aimed to assess the influence of Hepatitis B and C viruses, as causes of cirrhosis, on the timing of oesophageal varices recurrence following band ligation. Methods: A total of 350 patients post-band ligation were classified based on the timing of recurrence. The collected clinical data included the cause of cirrhosis, the Child-Pugh class, MELD score, splenic size, and laboratory results. Results: Recurrence occurred within 3 months (29%), 3-6 months (21%), 6-12 months (11%), over 1 year (27%), and no recurrence (12%). There was a statistically significant difference in the timing of OV recurrence based on the cause of cirrhosis, CHILD class, and MELD score. Conclusion: Our study found no significant link between the recurrence of oesophageal variceal bleeding and the Child class, MELD score, splenic size, or laboratory investigations, except for HCV as a cause of cirrhosis. These findings provide valuable insights into the factors influencing OV recurrence, enhancing our understanding of this complex condition. | ||
