| Abstract | ||
| Summary Salicylic acid is a phenolic compound plays a physiological role in plants. To test its effect on plant growth under water stress condition Maize (Individual hybrid national 6 white) variety was planted under four levels of surface drip irrigation system, (100%,87%,75% and 50%ofETC), at the research farm of the Soils and Water Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, Egypt, during the summer seasons of 2021and 2022. Three levels of salicylic acid were used, (350, 700 and 1050 ppm) and blank water control. The results showed significant decrease in all growth parameters under study between the 75% ETc and 100%, or 87%. However 50% ETc was significantly lower than all levels and it is not recommended. Spraying with Salicylic acid increased the study parameters within each irrigation level, except at 50% of ETc the spraying was not effective.Increasing SA concentration increased all traitsbut the obtained benefits between 700 ppm and 1050 ppm SA were not significant. Therefore, 700 ppm salicylic acid solution is recommended as economical level of using it. NPK concentration in maize leaves did not show specific trend either with water stress or with salicylic acid foliar spraying except increasing in Phosphorus concentration either with water defecate or with SD spraying?? Generally, as a result of being exposed to severe water stress, plant cells will loss the ability to respond to the addition of salicylic acid.
