| Abstract | ||
| Introduction: Venous thromboembolism is a serious medical issue that commonly arises in trauma patients. Understanding the factors that raise the risk of clot formation in the deep veins is necessary to assess the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Aim: To assess incidence and factors associated with deep venous thrombosis among trauma patients. Design: Descriptive research design. Setting: Trauma Intensive care units, at Assiut university trauma hospital. Subjects: A convenience sampling of sixty patients. Tools: Two tools were utilized to collect data of study, Tool I: Patient assessment tool. Tool II: Comprehensive risk factor assessment tool. Method: The researcher assessed risk factors of deep venous thrombosis among trauma patients. Results: The majority of patients with deep venous thrombosis had a high Autar risk assessment score (21.7%), whereas most patients without deep venous thrombosis had a low Autar risk assessment score (66.7%), showing a statistically significant difference. Additionally, Furthermore, over half (55.6%) of the patients with deep venous thrombosis in the study were on mechanical ventilation. Among the patients under study, the incidence rate of deep venous thrombosis was 15.0%. Conclusion: Long-term immobility from trauma, surgery, or prolonged travel, underlying medical conditions like cancer, heart failure, and genetic clotting disorders, and lifestyle factors like advanced age, obesity, smoking, and hormone replacement therapy are all major risk factors for deep vein thrombosis deep venous thrombosis. Recommendation: To guarantee early detection and reduce the risk, deep venous thrombosis techniques:(range of motion exercise, and elastic stocking) and recommendations must be disseminated. | ||
