| Abstract | ||
| Background: The lack of psychological resilience among patients with schizophrenia associated with alexithymia can exacerbate feelings of isolation, making it harder for these individuals to deal with stress and form meaningful connections with others. In which can further increase the risk of suicidal thoughts. Aim of study: Assess the relation between alexithymia, psychological resilience and suicidal ideation among patients with schizophrenia. Design: A descriptive correlational research design was utilized in this study. Setting: This study was conducted at Psychiatric Health Hospital and Addiction Treatment at Benha City, Qalubia Governorate. Study subject: Convenient sample of 100 patients with schizophrenia from hospital departments. Tools of Data collection: Four tools were used: Tool 1: Structured Interview Questionnaire. Tool 2: The Toronto Alexithymia Scale. Tool 3: The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. Tool 4: Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation. Results: There was a strong statistically significant positive correlation between total suicidal ideation and alexithymia among the studied patients with schizophrenia. While, there was a strong statistically significant negative correlation between total alexithymia and psychological resilience, also between total suicidal ideation and psychological resilience among the studied patients with schizophrenia. Conclusion: The study revealed that the studied patients had high level of alexithymia, psychological resilience and low risk of suicidal ideation among the studied patients with schizophrenia. Recommendations: Psycho- educational nursing programs should be conducted to improve psychological resilience, decrease alexithymia and suicidal ideation among patients with Schizophrenia. | ||
