| Abstract | ||
| Background: Vaginismus is a serious and widely spread condition that affects many lives; fortunately, it is curable. Many studies have focused on the importance of multi-disciplinary approaches for managing this condition. However, there is still a problem in the referral system and a lack of awareness about rehabilitation in women’s health. The purpose of this study was to develop a tool to assess the awareness and knowledge of physicians and physical therapists regarding the role of physical therapy in treating vaginismus. Methods: This survey was developed over three stages: instrument design (domain determination, item selection, and instrument construction), judgmental evidence (where content validity ratio, content validity index, and modified kappa statistic were tested), and reliability testing for internal consistency and stability. Results: Vaginismus Awareness Questionnaire (VAQ) has high face and content validity of individual items (I-CVI 0.83 to 1.0). Total scores showed strong stability (Spearman coefficient: r = 0.80 with P-value = 0.0001), and acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.70 to 0.79). Conclusions: This study introduces the first valid and reliable tool, the VAQ, to assess the awareness and knowledge about the role of physical therapy in vaginismus | ||
