| Abstract | ||
| This research aims to publish and study seven unpublished gold coins housed at The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Cairo, which were discovered at Tell El Deir Cemetery in New Damietta during the 2019-2020 season. The research is based on a descriptive study of these coins, including the coin number in the preservation records, the coin's material, denomination, diameter, and weight, with a detailed explanation of the subjects depicted on the front and back of the coin, and the reading and translation of the inscriptions recorded on these coins. The descriptive study is followed by a thorough analytical examination of the themes represented on the coins. This analysis covers their presence in Egypt and other countries, the materials used to make the coins, their denominations, the mints where they were produced, and whether the coins are of local or foreign origin. Through the analytical study of coins, we will learn about the economic and commercial situation of Damietta during the Byzantine Period, in addition to knowing the political and religious situation prevailing at this time, and in addition to knowing the reason for the presence of these coins at the cemetery site and the monitoring the relationship between these currencies and the mints in which they were minted. | ||
