| Abstract | ||
| This research investigates the machine translation quality in translating literary works with regard to culture and context. This study addresses how the systems of machine translation tackle expressions embedded in the culture and juxtaposes it with the process of translation made by humans by utilizing examples extracted from chapter 1 of Naguib Mahfouz’s Palace Walk. The research depends on the qualitative approach and the contrastive analysis in order to deal with the gathered data. This study demonstrates that the machine translation has noticeably developed in constructing well-structured and coherent texts. However, it has not completely succeeded in translating texts having cultural meanings making literature’s salient features. It can be concluded from the study at hand that the systems of machine translation should consolidate elements formed by culture. In addition, the accuracy of translation needs the presence of human translators in order to prevent the style and the content of the source text from being undermined. | ||
