| Abstract Background: Breast cancer in women is a major public health problem throughout the world. To reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with breast cancer, early detection becomes a very important job. Addition of breast Tomosyn-thesis to mammography examination reduced and eliminated tissue overlap especially in women with radiographically dense breast. Aim of Study: To evaluate the impact of adding Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) to Full Field Digital Mammog-raphy (FFDM) in detection, characterization and diagnosis of mammographically indeterminate breast lesions. Subjects and Methods: The study included 80 patients with 86 indeterminate findings on mammography. DBT ex-amination was done and imaging findings were evaluated before and after the use of DBT. Results: Tomosynthesis showed better diagnostic perform-ance compared to mammography. The sensitivity of Tomo-synthesis was 90%, the specificity was 91.1%, the positive predictive value of 88%, the negative predictive value was 92.7% and the diagnostic accuracy was 91%, while the sensi-tivity of mammography was 62.5%, the specificity was 59%, the positive predictive value was 52.1%, the negative predictive value was 68.8%, and the diagnostic accuracy was 60.4%. Conclusion: DBT significantly enhanced the detection and characterization of indeterminate breast lesions on digital mammography especially in the context of dense breast parenchyma. | ||
