Abstract | ||||
A total of one hundred samples, 25 of each, beef burger, frankfurter, kofta and sausage were collected from Alexandria markets and shops. Samples were examined bacteriologically to isolate and evaluate the occurrence rate of Escherichia coli. Enteropathogenic serotypes of E.coli. Escherichia coli were detected in burger 12(48%), frankfurter 8(32%), kofta 14(56%) and sausage 10(40%). Among 44 Escherichia coli strains isolated from meat product samples, 16 (36.4%) strains were Enteropathogenic with an incidence of (36.4%). The Enteropathogenic E. coli serotypes were belonged to O55(8), O125(6), O111(1) and O78(1). The majority of Enteropathogenic E. coli serotypes recovered from meat product samples showed haemolytic activity. The public health significance of the isolated serogroups and consumer's safety were discussed. | ||||
