Abstract | ||||
Acute Kidney Injury is considered as a life threatening condition that affects critically ill patients. It is associated with high morbidity and mortality rate.. Aim: evaluate the effect of implementing nursing intervention program about early detection and prevention of acute kidney injury on critically ill patient's clinical outcome. Design: A quasi experimental research design was utilized. Subjects: convenience sample of 60 adult patients at the anesthesia Intensive Care Unit of Tanta University Hospital, divided into two groups (control and study group) 30 patients in each. Results: The majority (96.7%) of patients in both control and study group had high level of National early warning sign score (NEWS) on admission. There was a significant difference between control and study patients in relation to renal recovery, referred to nephrologists, Patients who received RRT and hospital mortality with P= 0.004. More than half (53.3%) of the study group had normal urine output ≥0.5 mL/kg per hour for >6 hours after one week compared to low percentage of patients (6.7%) in control group. There was a significant difference between control and study sample to length of hospital stay and status on discharge after one week with p= (0.000 and 0.015) respectively. Conclusion: improved patient' clinical outcome in study sample compared with control group. Recommendations: Integrating nursing intervention program into plan of care to replace the traditional nursing care plan. | ||||
