| Abstract | ||||
| Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most common diseases in the world and developing countries such as Egypt. DN is leading to end stage renal disease. Tryptophan is a recent good marker for diabetic nephropathy. So, the aim of our study is to evaluate the value of tryptophan in diabetic patients either with or without nephropathy and to investigate the association between tryptophan and eGFR. Patients and Methods: A Cohert study that includes 60 patients who are diagnosed with diabetes mellitus from January 2018 to August 2018. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to presence of diabetic nephropathy or not and follow up the same patients in internal medicine department in zagazig university after six monthes. Demographic and clinical data were collected. Results: Tryptophan is associated with positive correlation with eGFR and negative correlation with serum creatinine level and albumin/creatinine ratio in diabetic nephropathy patients.
