Abstract | ||||
Achaia was a province of the Roman Empire. The region was annexed by the Roman Republic in 146 BC following the sack of Corinth by the Roman general Lucius Mummius, who was awarded the cognomen "Achaicus" (conqueror of Achaia). It became part of the Roman province of Macedonia, which included the whole of mainland Greec. It is represented in Roman art through 1- Aureus coin representing the of Akhaa province, preserved in the Museum of New York coins, weighs 7.10 grams, it is dated to AD 134-138, the inscription RESTITVTORI ACHAIAE. 2- A statue of the Achaia of Hadrianeum was found in Piazza di Pietra during excavations 1655-1667, reserved by Palazzo dei Conservator with Capitoline inv. MC0756. Marble, height 2.14 m x width 1.51 m, it is dated to AD 145 | ||||
