Abstract | ||||
Background:HepatitisCisamajorcauseofliver-relatedmorbidityandmortalityandrepresentsa majorpublichealthprobleminEgyptandworldwide.Thereisgrowingevidenceasregardtothe associationbetweenhepatitisCvirus(HCV)infectionandtype2diabetesmellitus.However,the mutuallinkandrelatedvirologicalimplicationhavenotbeenfullyclarified.Insulinresistance(IR) playsaprimaryroleinthedevelopmentoftype2DM.Thisissupportedbytheresultsofprospective longitudinalstudiesshowingthatIRisthebestpredictorofthedevelopmentoftype2DM,preceding itsonsetby10-20years. Aim:ToassessthecorrelationbetweenHCVmorbidityandInsulinresistance(IR)detectedby HOMAtestinnonediabeticnoneobeseHCVpatients Materials&Method:Thestudyparticipantsweresubcategorizedintotwogroups,Group(I): included867healthysubjects(negativeHCVRNA)asacontrolgroup.Group(II):included277 patientswithchronicHCVasastudygroup.The2groupsweresubjectedtothoroughhistorytaking, fullclinicalexamination,Anthropometricstudy,ultrasonographicexaminationandlaboratory investigationsincludingliverfunctions,viralmarkers,andqualitativePCRforHCVRNA,lipid profile,glucoseprofileandHOMAtest. Results:ThisstudyrevealedhigherinsulinresistanceintheHCVstudygroupthanthecontrolgroup. | ||||
