Abstract | ||||
Background:Hepatocellularcarcinoma(HCC)isthefifthmostcommonmalignancyinthe world.InEgypt,HCCwasreportedtoaccountforabout4.7%ofchronicliverdisease(CLD) patients.Squamouscellcarcinomaantigen(SCCA)hasbeenreportedtobestronglyexpressed inHCCtissuehamperingitsextensiveuseinclinicalpractice. Aim:Studythevalueofserumsquamouscellcarcinomaantigen(SCCA)forscreeningof HCC. Materials&Method:Thestudycomprisedoftwogroups.GroupAincluded60patientswith HCCdiagnosticallyconfirmedbyspiralCT,elevatedalfa-fetoprotein(AFP),and/orliverbiopsy .GroupBCLDpatientsdiagnosedonclinical,laboratory,andultrasonographicalinvestigations; groupBsuclassifiedintothreecategoriesaccordingtoCHILD-PUGHscoreincluded30 patients,matchedforsexandage.Allgroupsweresubjectedtothoroughhistorytaking,full clinicalexamination,andlaboratoryinvestigationsincludingliverfunctions,viralmarkers,and AFPandSCCAestimationusingELISAtechnique.
