Abstract | ||||
The influence of variable which affect the local scour depth and length, downstream irrigation gate structures is investigated in this paper. Experimental verifications of theoretical analyses of the scour depth and length are given, the effect of discharge per unit length of opening width, which flows under a sluice gate, on the scour phenomena is investigated experimentally. The combined effect of the gate opening, length of the solid floor downstream the gate, and the downstream water depth is also demonstrated. Empirical formulae for depth scour hole depth and scour hole length in terms of Froude number are presented. | ||||
