Abstract | ||||
Lead (Pb) is a hazardous heavy metal causing environmental pollution in various sources. A 3-factor pot experiment was conducted to asses the use of Spirulina platensis for alleviating Pb pollution on rocket plant (Eruca vesicaria ) grown in pots (10-kg pot-1). Factors and treatments were (1) Pollution (L): non-polluted (L0) and polluted soil with 400 mg Pb kg-1 (L1) as PbCl2 (2) Priming (P):none (P0), priming (soaking) of rocket seeds in 40 mgL-1(P1) and 80 mgL-1 (P2) (3) .Spirulina foliar spray (F) : with distilled water (F0), 40 mg L-1 (F1) and 80 mgL-1 (F2). Spirulina alleviated contamination andincreased growth and photosynthetic pigments and activity as well as increased activity of carboxylating enzymes (Phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase (PEPC, EC 4.1.1.31) and ribulose1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPC, EC 4.1.1.39) and NPK Highest positive effect was by the the combination of foliar and soaking at 80mg/l of Spirulina platensis solution. | ||||
