Abstract | ||||
P-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde is used for colorimetric determination of phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone both in pure form and in their tablets. The reaction proceeds via first formation of aldol intermediate which suffers aminolysis by piperidine with subsequent elimination to afford intensive and stable colored disubstituted styrene. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.08-0.4 mg mg-1 for phenylbutazone and 0.08-0.24 mg ml for oxyphenbutazone. | ||||
