Abstract | ||||
The study aimed to identify some socio-economic, agricultural, environmental and urban reasons leading to the Urban sprawl on agricultural land. and to identify the solutions from agricultural land holders points of views in the study villages. Two villages were selected, one in Sharkia Governorate and the other in Sohag Governorate according to the largest Urban sprawl on agricultural land indicators . The most important results were Firstly: Causes of urban crawling : high level of agricultural labor wages, canals demolition to be built on, the shortage and pollution of irrigation water, the weakness of the agricultural extension system, increase construction lands prices compared to agricultural land, low income in the agricultural work compared to other , increase in family size, scarcity of building space, high prices of agricultural land near main roads, no urban spaces identifications , difficulty obtaining permits to rebuild housing. Secondly the important effects of urban crawling on agriculture land were: decrease in agriculture land area , fallowing agriculture land to build on it ,increase construction land prices specially near main roads and cities , shortage of production supplies ,increase in imported food production ,shifting villages from production to consumption system ,shifting to nonagriculturejobs ,increase in unemployment rate ,increase in crowd and noise pollution , new social problems ,slum buildings , attrition of agriculture resources, increasing diseases rate and increase in demand of construction jobs. Thirdly the most important solutions to these problems from the respondents point of view were :reclaimed new area ,having a greater emphasis on co-operative marketing ,subsidizing agriculture production supplies ,emphasis agriculture extension ,increasing small agriculture projects ,improving services such as electricity , drinking water and developing slum . | ||||
