Abstract | ||||
The retail trade sector contributes for a large share of state economies, taking into account that globalization has a direct bearing on changing the consumption pattern in different markets. In this context, the current study is an attempt to investigate the Mega Shopping Malls as the most recent form of global trade centers, which combine shopping, entertainment and tourism that have regional influence. The 6th of October City was the first Egyptian city to witness the emergence of large shopping malls, namely Mall of Arabia and Mall of Egypt. Since then, they have proliferated in other regions. The study is mainly relied on the field work research. It has also benefited from satellite images and applied geographical information systems analyses (GIS) in order to identify the large trade centers and shopping malls (mega malls) in the city in preparation to be geographically classified, distributed and analyzed. The current study managed to define the shopping malls general morphology to investigate the commercial structure of their stores quantitatively and qualitatively. Furthermore, the study has examined the characteristics of their visitors and consumers, and addressed in detail their commercial employment. Based on the consumers and employee's ratings, the study managed to figure out the main problems of these centers, in an attempt to propose appropriate solutions. Moreover, the market influence zone of these centers with respect to their location in different zones as well as the percentage of consumers have been defined at the regional level. It has also proposed a futuristic vision for these centers, using a MODEL by doing simulations studies in order to evaluate the alternative location for the new Mega-malls to identify the most appropriate localities for establishing a new mega mall in accordance with different criteria. Finally, the study ended with significant results and major recommendations. | ||||
