Abstract | ||||
Background: Bullying at schools is an universal problem of different predominance rate. It is portrayed as a specific sort of aggression characterized by a regular and systematic misuse of power. That’s presented as verbal, relational and cyber aggression. Children exposed to bullying are believed to be in danger for health, mental issues and lower self-confidence. Objectives: The study aimed to examine the direct and relational bullying experience with its association with common health manifestations among primary school children in Tanta city, Egypt. Methods: A cross sectional study in Tanta City in the Middle of Nile Delta, Egypt, was conducted among 1535 students recruited by using multistage random sampling technique. Data was collected using Olweus Bullying Questionnaire and Health questionnaire to assess the associated health problems. Results: Among participants, 939 students (61.2%) were males, and 884 (57.6%) were of urban residence. Verbal bullying mainly name calling (5%) and physical bullying in form of kicking and hitting (3.5%) were the commonest types of bullying. Boys significantly bully than girls do. Victim /bully students significantly expressed more frequent bullying manifestation. Conclusions: Bullying in the form of verbal, physical and emotional violence is a problem among primary school children. Bullying and or victimized persons suffered several health and emotional related problems as well as their academic performance. | ||||
