| Abstract | ||||
| The inlet air temperature of a diesel engine plays a dominant role in its efficiency as it affects the combustion parameters, provided the engine characteristics are suitably adjusted. This study investigates the effect of inlet air temperature on the performance and emissions of a singlecylinder, four-stroke, water-cooled, direct-injection diesel engine. Inlet air was preheated up to 90 ⁰C and its impact was observed using the Diesel-RK software simulator under constant engine speed and variable load conditions. Air-preheating increases the physical and chemical delay rates — i.e., it accelerates the droplet vaporization and combustion rates. However, this also reduces its density, thereby lowering its mass flow rate and cycle efficiency, which is counterproductive. Therefore, the inlet air density must be increased to its original value beforehand to yield the full benefits of air-preheating. Furthermore, the effect of increased fuel flow rate at 30% of its rated value was also investigated; combined with increased air density, this caused a spike in the rated power, leading to improvements in the engine performance and combustion efficiency. These results show that preheating the intake air by increasing the fuel and intake air mass could improve the power-to-mass ratio of existing engines and reduce its pollutant emissions. أداء محرکات الديزل تتأثر بتغيير درجة حرارة الهواء الداخل الي المحرک ألنها تؤثر علي خصائص تفاعالت الحريق وبالتالي يمکن توظيف هذا في تحسين أداء المحرک اذا تم ضبط باقي العوامل مجتمعة مع درجة حرارة الهواء في صورة مناسبة.أجريت هذه الدراسة علي محرک معملي ديزل رباعي األشواط تبريد مياه احادي األسطوانة عند سرعة دوران ثابتة و قدرة متغيره لبيان أداء و انبعاثات المحرک مع تغيير درجة حرارة الهواء الداخل تصاعديا علي عدة مراحل لتبلغ 90 درجة مؤية. کما تم محاکاة التجارب المعملية علي برنامج المحاکاة -Diesel RK. زيادة درجة حرارة الهواء تؤدي الي نقصان في فترتي التأخيرالکيميائي و الفيزيائي حيث ان تأثير درجة الحرارة يؤثر علي زيادة معدل تبخير قطيرات الوقود و کذلک معدالت تفاعالت الحريق. في نفس الوقت تقل کثافة الهواء مع زيادة الحرارة مما يکن له تأثير عکسي علي قدرة المحرک.و لکي يمکن األستفادة من زيادة درجة حرارة الهواء باإليجاب يجب تعويض النقصان في کثافة الهواء بزيادة ضغطه.من الفوائد التي يمکن الحصول عليها من زيادة درجة حرارة الهواء هي زيادة معدل و کفاءة الحريق و علي ذلک يمکن زيادة معدل دخول الوقود الي المحرک بنسبة تصل الي 30 %عن معدله األصلي. وقد وجد ان زيادة درجة حرارة الهواء مع زيادة کثافته مع زيادة نسبة الوقود تؤدي الي تحسن في أداء المحرک و کفاءة الحريق و زيادة قدرة المحرک وبالتالي زيادة نسبة "القدرة الي الکتلة" للمحرک. | ||||
