Abstract | ||||
The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia was investigated among 1106 male, primary school children of different areas of Makkah City. Forty boys [3.62%] were found to be iron deficient by measuring their hemoglobin, red cell indices, complete blood count, serum iron, TIBC and ferritin estimations. Their peripheral blood smears showed hypochromic microcytic picture. The prevalence of iron deficiency was found as follows: 27% at Al-Mansour Street, 22% Sharaya, 18% Outaibia, 13% Nowariah, and 10% each in Sh. Al-Haj & Mesfelah. | ||||
