Abstract | ||||
This paper presents a design model for drinking water supply to the New Administrative Capital in Egypt which is planned to serve a total population of 6.5 million inhabitants. The water source and main intake and conveyance units were first determined, then the water treatment process was designed using two techniques: conventional treatment process and dyna-sand treatment process. The process flow line was determined and the design parameters for each treatment unit was calculated. A comparison between rapid sand filtration process in the conventional treatment and dyna-sand process was also presented in this paper showing the advantages of using the dyna-sand techniques. These advantages include the reduction in the treatment plant area and the continuous sand-wash process which saves the water quantity used in the backwash process. This study suggests that the dynasand technique is a suitable technique to use for large capacity water supply system with less land area compared to the conventional technique. | ||||
