| توفى الإمبراطور شارلمان في 28 يناير عام 814م وخلفه ابنه الوحيد لويس التقى الذي ظل على قيد الحياه بعد وفاة شقيقيه بيبن الذى توفى عام 810م و لحق به شارل في العام التالي وقدر له أن يحکم إمبراطورية مترامية الأطراف امتدت من جبال الألب شرقًا حتى کتالونيا غربًا. وإذا کان لويس التقى ورث بمفرده کافة ربوع الإمبراطورية، فإنه ورث أيضًا خطرًا کاسحًا يتمثل في الغزاة النورمان الذين حاولوا لأول مره غزو المملکة الکارولنجية عام799م، ولم يتمکن شارلمان من القضاء عليهم لکونه ارتکب خطا تمثل في عدم تجهيز أسطول کبير لمواجهة الأخطار البحرية، ومما زاد الطين بله أن الإمبراطور لويس لم يحرص على تجنب خطأ والده الاستراتيجي بتأسيس أسطول لمجابهة الغزوات البحرية ولم ينفذ تعليمات والده في إقامه استحکامات بحريه من قلاع وحصون وتهاون في تنفيذ نصائح والده، کما فشل الإمبراطور لويس التقى في تربيه أولاده على الأخلاق التي تقضي على وجه الخصوص التضحية بالنفس والنفيس من اجل مراعاة لرابطة الدم، ونتج عن هذا الخطأ الفادح انه زرع لويس بذور الشقاق والحقد بين أولاده بدلًا من الاتحاد في مواجهة الخطر النورمانى فکان يفضل اصغر أبنائه شارل الذى عرف فيما بعد باسم شارل الأصلع وامتلک القسم الأکبر من ممتلکات والده واستغل القراصنة النورمان تلک الظروف وقاموا بتوجيه غاراتهم على المدن الواقعة على نهر السين والسوم إبان حکم شارل الأصلع وهو ما سوف أتناوله في هذه الدراسة. Abstract: Emperor Charlemagne died on January 28, 814 AD, and was succeeded by his only son, Louis the pious, who survived the death of his two brothers, Pepin, who died in 810 AD. Charles joined him in the following year and was destined to rule a sprawling empire that stretched from the Alps in the east to Catalonia in the west. And if Louis met alone and inherited all parts of the empire, he also inherited an overwhelming danger represented in the Norman invaders who tried for the first time to invade the Carolingian kingdom in 799 AD, and Charlemagne was unable to eliminate them because he committed a mistake in not equipping a large fleet to confront the marine dangers, and what made the mud worse Indeed, Emperor Louis was not keen to avoid his father's strategic mistake by establishing a fleet to confront sea invasions, and he did not implement his father's instructions in establishing naval fortresses of castles and fortresses, and he was negligent in implementing his father's advice. The Emperor Louis also failed to raise his children on morals that require in particular self-sacrifice and precious in order to take into account the bond of blood.
