Abstract | ||||
The present study revealed that the foot of Eobania vermiculata is composed of two distinct layers; an outer simple epithelial layer which is covered with brush border at the sole region and an inner sub-epithelial layer which can be distinguished, according to the connective tissue type, into two sub-layers; an outer superficial and inner central deep layer. The outer layer contains the secretory parts of different types of glands, which are surrounded by connective tissues and muscle fibers. The histological and histochemical study of these glands showed that they can be classified according to the anatomical structure, size, shape and histochemical nature of their granules. Glands with carboxylated, sulfated, neutral mucopolysaccharides are recorded in both side and sole of the foot. While, glands with mixed or protein secretion situated only in the side. The inner subepithelial layer is devoid of glands and has more muscle fibers and many spaces. | ||||
