Abstract | ||||
When foreigners learn Chinese, they should master the most important components, which are phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar. Not mastering this phonetics will have an impact on their language level, causing difficulties and misunderstandings while communicating. Each of these three elements may contain a phenomenon called ambiguity. Ambiguity refers to a sentence, or a word contains two or more meanings. So it will lead to misunderstandings or unnecessary problems. For example, The phrase "chicken does not eat" contains semantic structure ambiguity. It may be understand as the relationship between the subject and action, that is, "the chicken does not eat"; it can also be understood as the relationship between the object and the action, that is, "I don't eat chicken". Another example, "tuōxié" in the example "I want tuōxié" contains a phonetic ambiguity, which can be understood as "Take off my shoes "; it can also be understood as "slipper". Examples like these will increase the difficulty for Egyptian students to learn Chinese. Therefore, this thesis will study the ambiguity in modern Chinese, try to reduce its difficulty and suggest some positive suggestions for teaching material by investigating the situation of students who study ambiguity. | ||||
