Abstract | ||||
The current study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral environmental program in modifying distorted ideas of the culture of poverty and training on rational thinking patterns and behavior patterns that aim to improve the quality of life of a sample of the rural and urban poor. The study also attempted to link between the Big Five factors of personality, cognitive distortions, and quality of life. The sample consisted of two groups of (30) people divided into two groups, one of them is the experimental group and an environmental behavioral cognitive program was applied to it and the other is a control group. The researchers used the experimental method. The data collected on the SPSS statistical program was analyzed to ensure the validity and reliability of the tools using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the correlation between study variables, depending on the tools used in the study. The study "Quality of Life Scale, Cognitive Distortion Scale, and Big Five Personality Factor Scale", the study concluded: There are statistically significant differences in cognitive distortions and quality of life among the experimental study sample of rural and urban poor when they respond to a cognitive behavioral environmental program in the pre, follow-up and post performance. There is a statistically significant correlation between cognitive distortions, quality of life, and the five major personality factors among the experimental study sample of rural and urban poor. The researchers recommended the need to prepare awareness programs for the poor to develop their abilities to deal with the development programs that they benefit from in order to achieve the maximum benefit from these programs and to develop their abilities to get out of the cycle of poverty. Psychologists and social workers should implement their programs in a more conscious and comprehensive manner, which may help in improving the results of development programs more effectively. | ||||
