Abstract | ||||
Field experiments were carried out during the two successive growing seasons of 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 to study the effect of varying plant sparing as well as levels and frequency of N on the yield and yield components of sugar beet. Results showed that increasing plant spacing from 20 to 30 cn{ between hills increased root length, diameter and weight a swell as root yield, weight of leaves per plant sucrose percentage and juice purity. Planting kawemira sugar beet plants at hills 30 cm apart and s pplying them with 80 kg N/fed as three equal batches before the first, second and I hird irrigation was responsible for producing an economical yield. While, the highest sucrose percentage was recorded when sowing it at 30 em between hills and adding 60 kg N/fed at three equal batches at the same previous time. These results were true under Upper Egypt conditions. | ||||
