Abstract | ||||
The main objective of this study is to investigate the correlation between some social, economic and communication factors affecting farmer's participation in the activities of agriculture modernization and rationalization of irrigation water use". As to the empirical part of this study, a personal interview questionnaire was used to collect data from a random sample consisted of 75 respondents of farmers. 38 respondents from Rowdh Khairy village (Abo Homos District) and 37 respondents from Manshiah El-Helbawy village (Kafer EI-Dwar District), in EI-Behera Governorate. There are 5 questionnaire has been refused from the total number of 80 questionnaire (40 questionnaire from each village). Statistical tools used were percentages, averages, frequency distributions, simple correlation coefficient (r), multiple regression and variation analysis, to describe and analyze the correlation between the independent and dependent variables. The research results showed that: - There is only a significant correlation between farmer's agricultural knowledge level and their participation in the activities of agriculture modernization and rationalization of irrigation water use. The (r) value was 0.449; it was significant at the probability level 0.01. There is a not significant correlation between each of other social, economic and communication characteristics of respondents (their age, educational level, farm size, their experience in agricultural work and number of agricultural references sources) as independent variables - and their participation in the activities of agriculture modernization and rationalization of irrigation water use (as a dependent composed variable of this study). The (r) values were 0.030, 0.089,0.174,0.008 and 0.169, respectively. It was not significant at the probability level 0.05. There was a not significant correlation between all of the independent variables as one cluster (on one side) and the total degrees of respondents' participation in the activities of agriculture modernization and rationalization of irrigation water use (on the other side). The value of multiple regression (r square) was 0.25. And the F value was 3.83; it was not significant at the probability level 0.05. It was found that, the variable of farmer's agricultural knowledge level (as an independent variable) is the most important variable explanation the variation in the variable of participation in the activities of agriculture modernization and rationalization of irrigation water use (beta=0.443). Subsequently, farm size (beta=0.193), number of agricultural reference sources (beta=0.1 01), educational level (beta=0.083), respondents'age (beta=0.012), later on agricultural experience variable (beta=0.003). Finally, it means that there are other variables, didn't included in this study, are responsible on the majority of variation in the variable of participation in the activities of agriculture modernization and rationalization of irrigation water use, and we need more studies to discover and investigate these variables. | ||||
