Abstract | ||||
The Bahariya Oasis is located in the central part of the Western Desert. The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer is the most important source of groundwater in the Western Desert, particularly in the Bahariya Oasis. The E-W and SW-NE cross sections in the study area were constructed and revealed that the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer system can be classified into six zones depending on the lithologic facies variation and behaves as one hydrogeologic system. The transmissivity values range between 3660 m2/day in the southwestern part to 315 m2/day in the northeastern part of the Bahariya oasis. Unfortunately, the increased reliance on groundwater resources, without any scientific preplans, has caused some negative hydrogeological implications such as rapid decline in groundwater potentiometric levels with time and possible salinization of groundwater. During the course of this model, different scenarios will be discussed in order to show the high efficient output, as indicated by all possible prediction periods and safe conditions for economic uses of ground water. The sustainable management of the groundwater of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer will hopefully influence The future policies and strategies of the groundwater exploitation in the Bahariya Oasis depend on the sustainable management of the groundwater of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer put the Bahariya Oasis on the track of the development plans in Egypt in the near future.` | ||||
