Abstract | ||||
The research discusses a pivotal issue concerning the developmental role of small cities as a link between rural communities and major cities. Most of the small Egyptian cities have a weak developmental role in the development process, despite possessing many attributes that qualify them to play this role and alleviate the burden from the large and medium cities. Hence the research necessary to rehabilitate the different types of small cities in Egypt to support their developmental role. This was achieved by studying the general framework of small cities in Egypt by monitoring and extracting different patterns using the SPSS statistical analysis system based on a set of governing developmental and economic indicators. Additionally, potential approaches to rehabilitate different patterns of the developmental role are monitored, through a set of international and local case studies. Consequently, identify appropriate rehabilitation indicators and approaches for each type. Moreover, the model builder tool (ArcGIS) was utilized to apply the rehabilitation approaches to the different types of Egyptian small cities. Which, in turn, will contribute to the optimal utilization of the components of those cities according to the specificity of their condition. As well as alleviate the burden of medium and large cities, which progressively and effectively helps in achieving comprehensive and integrated development. This will further contribute to bridging the development gap, strengthening urban-rural ties, and developing the local economy | ||||
