Abstract | ||||
Periodontal disease is one of the biggest threats to dental health it has been widespread in developed as well as developing countries. High prevalence of periodontal disease occurred in adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Periodontal disease is mainly the result of inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth initiated by bacterial biofilm. In its early stage, called gingivitis, the gums can become swollen, red, and bleeds easily. In its more serious form, called periodontitis, the gums can pull away from the tooth, bone can be lost, and the teeth may loosen or even fall out. There are many risk factors that affect the prevalence of periodontal diseases such as age, gender, smoking, and diabetes mellitus that should be considered during the diagnosis and the treatment. This study is a cross-sectional study and was aimed to determine the prevalence of Periodontitis in adult Egyptian dental outpatients attending the diagnostic center at the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. | ||||
