Abstract | ||||
" Being of Mexican background, being Indian-looking, being a female, coming from a working-class background, and then becoming politicized in high school, that was my direction . . . I was a Chicana protest poet, a complete renegade--and I continue to write that way" (Castillo ,Massacre of the dreamers). This paper investigates Ana Castillo's protest against male dominance and female oppression. It examines types of oppression which women face. Women across ages are considered subordinate and are universally oppressed by her male counterpart. The first type of oppression is due to ethnicity of the Chicana. Another type is due to gender. Chicana women want education for their children. Child care is also an important issue of Chicana feminism. According to Ana Castillo Rape and abuse of women must always be condemned. | ||||
