Abstract | ||||
Background: obstetric fistula (OF) is a serious public health hazard affecting tens thousands of women in underdeveloped nations and has the most catastrophic social, economic and physical implications. In addition, OF is a preventable disorder in which health care providers play a crucial role. The aim of this study was to evaluate knowledge and attitude of pregnant women concerning obstetric fistula. Design: A descriptive study design was utilized. Setting: The research was performed at The Hospital of Benha University, outpatient clinics of obstetrics and gynecology. Sampling: 288 pregnant women were enrolled as a study sample. Tools: 3 tools were employed to collect information: Tool I: A systematic questionnaire for interviews. Tool II: Awareness evaluation sheet for pregnant women regarding obstetric fistula. Tool III: Attitude evaluation sheet regarding obstetric fistula. Results: showed that, 3/4 of pregnant women had in adequate awareness level concerning obstetric fistula. Also, less than two thirds had negative attitude regarding obstetric fistula. Moreover, a statistically critical association was present among overall knowledge score of pregnant women as well as total attitude score and their general characteristic. Conclusion: the study concluded that, A highly substantially positive association was present among overall awareness and attitude of the studied pregnant women regarding obstetric fistula. Recommendations: It is necessary to provide educational program during pregnancy for improving pregnant women awareness and behavior concerning obstetric fistula. | ||||
