Abstract | ||||
The study seeks in its main objective to know the effect of using social networking sites on the values of citizenship and belonging in a comparative study of a sample of youth centers in rural and urban areas. The study attempts to answer a main question, the content of which is: What is the impact of the use of social networking sites on the values of citizenship and belonging? The social survey method was chosen to study a sample of (150) youth centers in rural and urban areas, and they were studied based on the questionnaire tool. The study reached several results, including: The high use of social networking sites by young people (WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter). There are many reasons why young people use social networks, and they are: Knowing world news, getting to know regional and international events and developments, acquiring new skills, information and knowledge. The high impact of social networking sites on the values of citizenship among young people. The high impact of social networking sites on the values of belonging among young people (preserving identity, loyalty and pride in the homeland. Through the results of the study, several recommendations can be formulated, including: 1) Finding an effective role for youth welfare institutions, whether centers, clubs, or youth welfare departments in universities and educational institutes, in developing, promoting and strengthening the values and culture of citizenship. 2) The necessity of the official media’s interest in instilling and developing the values of citizenship and belonging among young people. 3) That state institutions work to enable young people to realize their roles as citizens with rights and duties. | ||||
