Abstract | ||||
The pure seed and production of long and extra-long staple varieties, rational are using the pedigree selection method necessary to produce the breeder's seed. Thus, breeding program of Giza 95 was conducted at Sids Agricultural Research Station, Beni-suef governorate district during 2019- 2022 growing seasons. In 2019 season sixty type plants were selected from the nursery field of the new Giza 95 cultivar and furnished sixty progenies (increase A) in 2020 season. From the later, seventeen families were selected to descend increase B in 2021 season. According to the statistical analysis of yield trial which included the seventeen families and comparisons of the three newest lines of Giza 95, eight elite families were selected and the selfed seeds were carefully massed together to form the nucleolus (breeder's seed) in 2022 season. Data obtained indicated that, the pure line method, in the sense of pedigree selection, for renewing annually Giza 95 breeder's seed could produce high genetically pure seeds and in the same time, prevent genetic contamination. Meanwhile, the selection technique for producing breeder's seed of Giza 95 cultivar was valid and proved to be effective in holding this cultivar according to the standard type of Giza 95. | ||||
