Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the usefulness of ultrasound examination for assessing fetal outcomes following a threatened miscarriage. Design: Prospective single-center study. Setting: Muhammad Saleh Basharahil Hospital, Holly Makkah, Saudi Arabia, this is a privet hospital with about 100 bed, the obstetrics and gynecology department have more than 6000 consultations per year and about 2000 delivery per year. Study Population: A total of 400 pregnant those making follow up in the obstetric and gynecology department outpatient clinic and keep following up till delivery and presenting with threatened miscarriage. Methods: Patients were enrolled in the outpatient clinic of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and followed up with regular ultrasound examination. The association of ultrasound parameters with fetal outcomes was analyzed during the period of follow-up till delivery. Main outcome measures: Fetal outcomes (IUGR, intrauterine growth retardation; IUFD, intrauterine fetal death; NICU, neonatal intensive care unit admission). Results: Conclusions: Close follow-up of women presenting with first-trimester vaginal bleeding might help identify cases likely to have adverse fetal outcomes like intrauterine growth retardation, intrauterine fetal death, and neonatal intensive care unit admission.
