| Abstract | ||||
| The Scarabs were widely carved in different shapes in ancient Near East civilizations, and also discovered in many ancient archaeological sites in the Arabian peninsula. They were better known in Egyptian civilization along the Nile Valley. This article deals with samples of Scarabs found in archaeological sites along the Arabian Peninsula, mainly central, eastern and north-western parts. The scarabs were carved in shape of black insect which commonly gathering the dung in an oval-like ball and put their eggs inside them. They roll the dung balls frequently and hiding them in their caches. The Scarabs were found in Arabian Peninsula in graves and daily activates sites. They bear Egyptian Hieroglyphic inscriptions and used as seals for agreement, contracts, commercial goods as well as their role as powerful spells and amulets. Images and decorated items were engraved on them, which include different themes such as adornment and protective talismans. They also bear hidden mystification items as well as real scenes and sacred animal. شاع تشکيل ونحت الجعلان (الجعارين) في حضارات الشرق الأدنى القديم، کما اکتشفت في مواقع بالجزيرة العربية خلال أعمال التنقيبات الأثرية التي أجريت في المواقع الأثرية. وقد کان انتشارها الواسع في الحضارة المصرية على امتداد وادي النيل. وسيتناول البحث دراسة بعض نماذج الجعلان (الجعران) التي وُجدت أعداداً کبيرة في المواقع الأثرية بالجزيرة العربية، سواء في الوسط أو الشرق أو الشمال الغربي من الجزيرة العربية. نحت شکل الجعران على هيئة حشرة سوداء والتي من عاداتها تعمل على تجميع وتکوين الروث على شکل کرة بيضاوية الشکل، ومن ثم توضع بيضها بداخلها وتدحرجها على الدوام أمامها ثم تجمعها في مخبأها. وجدت الجعلان(الجعران) في المواقع الأثرية بالجزيرة العربية مدفونة بالمقابر وفي أماکن النشاطات للحياة اليومية، وکتب عليها بالخط الهيروغليفي للغة المصرية القديمة، وکان استخدامها کأختام لتوثيق بها الاتفاقيات والعقود والبضائع التجارية أو لکتابة تعاويذ وتمائم. کانت الرسوم على الجعلان(الجعران) المزخرفة عديدة، شملت الزخارف مواضيع متنوعة؛ بغرض الزينة والتجمل، ورسوماً أخرى تتضمن طلاسم واقية، کما تخفي أحياناً بعض الألغاز وصور مختلفة، وأحياناً تکون الرسوم عبارة عن مناظر حقيقية وحيوانات مقدسة. | ||||
